What should I expect during my first visit of orthodontic consultation?
Our dentist will first get to know you and understand your concerns and expectations. She will then perform a detailed assessment and examination. She will also have an intra-oral digital scan of your teeth and jaw taken and show you a simulation of the possible outcome. She will need to take Xrays to better plan. She will then discuss with you about the types of braces suitable to you and the costs. You are able to ask her the doubts and questions you might have.
What are the types of braces available?
We carry a wide range of systems to better address different malocclusion or myofunctional conditions. Invisible braces (Invisalign), Self-ligating braces (Damon), Conventional braces, Removable braces and Myofunctional appliances (MyoBrace).
What are invisible braces (Invisalign)?
Invisible braces (Invisalign - premium brand) is gaining soaring popularity as an alternative system to straightening teeth without the use of metal brackets. Instead of brackets and wires, Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually shift teeth into their desired positions.
What are self-ligating braces (Damon)?
Self-ligating braces (Damon - premium brand) is a system used to straighten teeth and correct dental alignment with the use of metal or ceramic brackets. Unlike traditional braces, instead of using elastic bands to hold the archwire in place, self-ligating braces feature a built-in mechanism that allows the archwire to be secured without the need for the elastic bands.
What are conventional braces?
Conventional braces, often simply referred to as "braces," are a widely used orthodontic system designed to correct misaligned teeth and bite issues. They consist of several components that work together to gradually move teeth into their correct positions.
What are myofunctional braces (MyoBrace)?
Myofunctional braces (MyoBrace) are a type of orthodontic appliance designed to address dental alignment and bite issues by focusing on the function of the muscles around the mouth and jaw. Unlike invisible braces, self-ligating braces or conventional braces, myofunctional appliances work to correct orthodontic problems by encouraging proper oral and facial muscle function, which can help guide the growth and alignment of the teeth and jaws.
Is the treatment painful?
There will be some discomfort and pain during the course of treatment. Weight loss is also a sequel that is well reported. It differs from person to person.
What happens after?
There can still be movement of teeth after completion of Invisalign or braces. Long-term retention with removable, fixed or both types of retainers are an absolute necessity to ensure long-term stability. Dental care and recall visits will still be scheduled every 6 months for oral health maintenance.
